Foxdog Studios answers 10 Edinburgh Fringe Questions
Foxdog Studios duo Lloyd Henning and Peter Sutton talk about turning from IT geeks into comedians. Who are IT geeks.
1. Tell us about your career so far. Are you happy with where you're at?
In our teenage years we wanted to be rockstars, then we accidentally did degrees in Computer Science. In our professional years we set up our own IT consultancy, however we soon realised we hated our clients. So on August 8th 2013 we gave stardom another shot at the Open Mic at Fuel Cafe Manchester. We bemused audiences at the Fringe last year and now we're happy to be back combing the two greatest art forms of all time: music and computer programming.
2. Describe your show in exactly 23 words.
Immersive multimedia showcase super charged by our radical algorithms. Our tangy homemade technologies turn you into an instrument of IT Rock 'n' Roll.
3. Why are you putting yourself through this famously stressful experience?
Us nerds are used to spending summer inside programming our computers, so the Fringe is brilliant as it gets us out the house to collect our yearly supply of Vitamin B.
4. Any cunning plans to get more punters in?
We ordered half the number of flyers than we did last year, hopefully people will be enticed by the increased scarcity of our promotional paper.
5. How much money do you think you'll lose/make this year?
Probably about the same as last year, which we've a breakdown of on our website.
6. What's your weirdest past Fringe experience?
Last year when we were busking with our tin foil dinosaur and chest mounted synthesiser a group of Mormon lads in shirts and ties watched us for a good while. We eventually got chatting and found out they loved technology and making things. You know, it's not really a weird experience as they were just fellow human beings who had a shared interest. In fact, if you take a look at the official Mormon website you'll find it's quite a banging bit of coding.
7. What other shows are you hoping to see?
Brickhead: Yeah Yeah, Roisin and Chiara: Wild At Heart, Madame SeƱorita, Ben Russell: The Tokyo Hotel and Aunty Donna.
8. If you took over programming a venue, what would you perfect line-up of comedians be?
We'd put on superstar cabaret featuring The Muppets, the cast of The Labyrinth and headline it with a Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time speedrun race with Cosmo Vs ZFG.
9. Name the one person you'd rather not bump into during the festival.
The unknown performer who last year managed to convert his European plug into our UK extension plug by force. The thing is European plugs are two pins, whilst UK plugs have three pins. It's that longer top pin in the UK plug that unlocks a gate to allow the two shorter pins to connect (a safety mechanism). However this ingenious fellow fringer bypassed this by shoving his plug in until it fitted (breaking the gate). We were sitting next to him when he'd done this, he must have thought it wasn't our extension plug, because when tried to move his plug into a different one, he yelled at us. If we see him this year we'll buy him a proper adapter to end his conversion crusade.
10. Why should audiences pick your show over the 1,700+ other comedy offerings at this year's festival?
Because they've realised all they want to see is an animatronic duck being sold as a wedding veil.
