Edinburgh Q and A

Erich McElroy answers 10 Edinburgh Fringe Questions

Erich McElroy

This year Erich McElroy will be offering up his imperfect guide to picking the perfect US president...

1. Tell us about your career so far. Are you happy with where you're at?

Where I'm at in comedy, the weekend before the Festival, is a hotel in Birmingham. Which when I started in the 2000's was exactly where I didn't expect to be.

2. Describe your show in exactly 23 words.

The title says it all in less than 23 words. I explain all you ever wanted to know about America. Pretty much. Imperfectly.

3. Why are you putting yourself through this famously stressful experience?

The same reason I do every year. I've lied once again to my wife about how it will make me rich and famous.

4. Any cunning plans to get more punters in?

None. If you know of any please stop by at 1pm every day to Laughing Horse @ Bar 50 and tell me after you've watched my show.

5. How much money do you think you'll lose/make this year?

First year on the Free so I have no idea. Either less or more than all my previous years.

6. What's your weirdest past Fringe experience?

Meeting Dominic West, from The Wire, and making a complete tit of myself.

7. What other shows are you hoping to see?

Matt Forde, Alex Edelman, Harriet Kemsley, Jessica Fostekew, Bobby Mair and 1,000 more.

8. If you took over programming a venue, what would you perfect line-up of comedians be?

Jon Stewart. In a room that only holds 52 people.

9. Name the one person you'd rather not bump into during the festival.

Dominic West, because it didn't go well the last time.

10. Why should audiences pick your show over the 1,700+ other comedy offerings at this year's festival?

It is funny. The rest are all crap.

'Erich McElroy's Imperfect Guide to Picking the Perfect President' is at 1pm at Bar 50 on 6-30 August. Listing
