Eleanor Tiernan answers 10 Edinburgh Fringe Questions

Eleanor Tiernan

Eleanor Tiernan answers our 10 Fringe questions.

1. Tell us about your career so far. Are you happy with where you're at?

I did my first comedy gig in 2004. Comedy is a great profession if you want to avoid meaningful relationships, wealth and healthy living. I am doing great so far.

2. Describe your show in exactly 23 words.

Hahaha description of how naïve and clueless I've been. All my life being a good girl only to realise there are no rewards for that crap.

3. Why are you putting yourself through this famously stressful experience?

Stress has gotten a bad rap in recent years. Mostly from doctors. What do they know? I like stress. It makes me feel alive.

4. Any cunning plans to get more punters in?

Yes. And one of those cunning plans is not telling anyone what my cunning plans are in case other comedians hear about my cunning plans and steal my cunning plans.

5. How much money do you think you'll lose/make this year?

I hope I only lose a little bit of money. That would mean that I can afford the good beans on toast come September.

6. What's your weirdest past Fringe experience?

Weird Fringe experiences always happen to me towards the end of the run when everyone including me has lost touch with reality. I fell passionately and completely in love with someone I had just met on the last night of the festival once. We're still together.... not.

7. What other shows are you hoping to see?

Loads. Jo Caulfield. Tony Law. Chris Kent. Gearoid Farrelly. Damian Clark. Niamh Marron. Tom Allen. Seymour Mace. Gavin Webster. Karl Spain. Al Porter. Tiffany Stevenson. Bec Hill. Phil Nichol. Juliet Myers. Jenny Collier. Conor O'Toole.

8. If you took over programming a venue, what would you perfect line-up of comedians be?

Stewart Lee, Tony Law, Dave Chapelle, Maria Bamford, Mitch Hedberg, Paul Currie, Brian Regan, John Mulaney.

I'd give Axl Rose an open spot too. He's not a comedian but I have a feeling it would be funny.

9. Name the one person you'd rather not bump into during the festival?

The Dalai Lama. Going around the festival being all wise and everything making the rest of us feel bad. Gimme a break dude.

10. Why should audiences pick your show over the 1,700+ other comedy offerings at this year's festival?

The only thing my show has that no other show has is me. How far that constitutes an advantage is what every man must decide for himself.

'Eleanor Tiernan - Don't Cry for Me Eleanor Tiernan' is at 8:30pm at The White Horse on 6-23, 25-30 August. Listing
