Elaine Malcolmson answers 10 Edinburgh Fringe Questions
Elaine Malcolmson doesn't want to bump into her future self. Find out why...
1. Tell us about your career so far. Are you happy with where you're at?
I think I started in 2007 but there have been times I've gone for months without doing any comedy because I've been doing other things. Maybe I have a short attention what's the next question?
2. Describe your show in exactly 23 words.
A dark, uplifting, twisty tale about the importance of making your own arrangements. It has decisions, self-reproach, jokes and death. So there.
3. Why are you putting yourself through this famously stressful experience?
What do you mean stressful? Is it supposed to be stressful? Nobody told me it was stressful. Jeees, I'm really stressed now thanks.
4. Any cunning plans to get more punters in?
I'm expecting ticket sales to rocket following this interview so I might build a mezzanine.
5. How much money do you think you'll lose/make this year?
Exactly the same amount that will be on my tax return.
6. What's your weirdest past Fringe experience?
I once helped a 76 year-old cabaret act put on their flashing nipples. It felt like a visit from the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come.
7. What other shows are you hoping to see?
Jena Friedman, Kyle Kinane, Bearpit Podcast, Richard Brown, anyone that has said they are hoping to see my show.
8. If you took over programming a venue, what would you perfect line-up of comedians be?
Martin Mor, Tig Notaro, Jena Friedman, Mark Nelson and Mandy Muden.
9. Name the one person you'd rather not bump into during the festival.
My future self. I bumped into her last week and she told me not to do the Fringe as it would destroy my soul. She's going to be raging.
10. Why should audiences pick your show over the 1,700+ other comedy offerings at this year's festival?
Potential mezzanine.
