Chris Kent answers 10 Edinburgh Fringe Questions
This year, Chris Kent needs to Stop Stalling.
1. Tell us about your career so far. Are you happy with where you're at?
I did my first gig in 2006. It was very much just a hobby at the beginning, that's what I told everybody while secretly dreaming of making it my full time job. I moved to Australia in late 2007 to work as an electrician, and I did some gigs over there too. A year later I moved back to Ireland and have been full time since. I perform at lots of festivals, sometimes headline clubs and have supported some major acts along the way. I have recently moved to the UK so I am happy enough, this is my fourth Edinburgh and I feel like I am progressing every year.
2. Describe your show in exactly 23 words.
I'm recently married so a lot of the show revolves around that. I talk about feeling inadequate as a comedian and joke theft.
3. Why are you putting yourself through this famously stressful experience?
The first one I found stressful, but I have since learned that it's only as big a deal as you make of it.
I don't really find it too stressful now to be honest once I am here I really enjoy it. I like getting a new show together and I believe the positives outweigh the negatives in the end.
4. Any cunning plans to get more punters in?
None whatsoever, I am a terrible sales man. I lean heavily on the word of mouth from those who have enjoyed my show.
5. How much money do you think you'll lose/make this year?
No idea, but thanks for depressing the shit out of me.
6. What's your weirdest past Fringe experience?
Getting ill during my first year. I contracted the Mumps. The worst part was that nobody really believed me that I was ill and just assumed I couldn't handle the stress of Edinburgh.
7. What other shows are you hoping to see?
Tommy Tiernan, Set List, and loads more that I'll probably never get to.
8. If you took over programming a venue, what would you perfect line-up of comedians be?
Patrice O'Neal, Tommy Tiernan, Richard Pryor, Bill Burr and Roy Chubby Brown.
9. Name the one person you'd rather not bump into during the festival.
I'd rather not Bump into you because you because of question number 5 :)
10. Why should audiences pick your show over the 1,700+ other comedy offerings at this year's festival?
I've no idea, like I said I am a terrible sales man.
'Chris Kent Stop Stalling' is at 6:35pm at Assembly George Square Studios on 5-17, 19-31 August. Listing
