Cambridge Footlights answers 10 Edinburgh Fringe Questions
The legendary Cambridge Footlights dramatic society are back at the Fringe with their 2015 show, Love Handles, as part of an international tour.
1. Tell us about your career so far. Are you happy with where you're at?
Our careers have for the most part all involved doing student comedy in Cambridge, so doing an international tour like this is the biggest thing we have done. Everyone has either graduated recently or is going into their final year; with one or two years' experience each, we're still in the honeymoon period before being emotionally and physically crushed by the comedy machine. So yeah, we are really chuffed at our careers so far and we have our whole lives ahead of us!
2. Describe your show in exactly 23 words.
In the same way that Einstein's brain had unusually strong connections between both hemispheres, our show manages to integrate both creativity and logic.
3. Why are you putting yourself through this famously stressful experience?
Because even though comedy and all art is the MOST stressful thing you can put yourself through, all the suffering and heartache you go through is finally worth it when you lay eyes on your audiences and see the looks on their faces.
4. Any cunning plans to get more punters in?
Yes but you'll have to come see the show to see what that is ;)))))
5. How much money do you think you'll lose/make this year?
Personal question woah!!! We are excited to say that the books will be balanced at the end of this financial quarter or our stakeholders will have our nuts in a vice.
6. What's your weirdest past Fringe experience?
Luke once had a really huge fish and chips and then couldn't speak on stage. He thinks it was full of drugs or he was cursed. Luckily the show was saved when it turned out that the entire audience were fluent in mime and Luke is a level three mime artist. Still, it was not cool - Luke went back to the chippie but when he arrived it wasn't there - there wasn't even a building, just a field. Maybe he forgot where it was but something weird was definitely going on.
Eleanor slept in a bathtub once - that was weird.
7. What other shows are you hoping to see?
We are most excited about THE WRESTLING! Wrestling and comedy are the two purest art forms and to combine them creates a perfect blend of funtertainment.
Also James Acaster because he is a genius.
8. If you took over programming a venue, what would you perfect line-up of comedians be?
James Acaster and 6 clones of James Acaster who are all from different backgrounds so have slightly different world experiences to draw material from plus it will fill the race quota. Also some will be female if we have the technology (I heard we can do it with rats).
9. Name the one person you'd rather not bump into during the festival.
We have this character called the "Sludge Juggler" and if we're going to include mythical characters then I'd definitely pick him. Not going to give too much away but let's just say he's someone you would NOT like to "bump" into.
Also James Acaster because of the number of times we have mentioned him in this article.
10. Why should audiences pick your show over the 1,700+ other comedy offerings at this year's festival?
The same reason why potential partners should pick us on over the other several thousand Tinder profiles out there (yes we have a shared Tinder account that we are spending a lot of the show's budget on so we can swipe right many times more in a 12 hour period) - we are special, and even though you can have meaningless and arbitrary intercourse with all the other shows out there, with our show maybe, just maybe, you might be able to find love.
'The Cambridge Footlights International Tour Show 2015: Love Handles' is at 3:45pm at Underbelly Med Quad on 5-16, 18-30 August. Listing
