Edinburgh Q and A

Brett Goldstein answers 10 Edinburgh Fringe Questions

Brett Goldstein

You may have recently seen Brett Goldstein is shows like Undercover and Hoff The Record. He returns to his stand-up roots for the Edinburgh Festival though...

1. Tell us about your career so far. Are you happy with where you're at?

I have been doing stand-up for 8 years now. I always think it takes 10 years to get good at it, so, you know, fingers crossed!

2. Describe your show in exactly 23 words.

Drugs, fame, fetishes, sex criminals, my mum (not connected to sex criminals), breathing in sand, banks, sincerity, penis chat. That's a set list.

3. Why are you putting yourself through this famously stressful experience?

I can't remember. Because I forgot the pain of childbirth? I like babies? I don't know.

4. Any cunning plans to get more punters in?

Dick pics?

5. How much money do you think you'll lose/make this year?

5 pounds. Either way.

6. What's your weirdest past Fringe experience?

The big Spanish lady who slept all through my show then asked me to bring the show to Spain to perform to her cos she loved it so much. I wondered if she had a sleep problem and I was the cure.

7. What other shows are you hoping to see?

Ant Man is on at the Edinburgh Omin Centre, I want to catch that if I can.
If that is sold out, then I want to see... My list is too long for here...I hate these lists cos I'll always forget someone...

I will see all my favourites that I remember off the top of my head here (Seymour Mace, Lou Sanders, Aisling Bea, James Acaster, Katherine Ryan, Nish Kumar etc) but here are my top three picks of the newer guys on the block: Phil Wang, Lolly and Fin Taylor.

8. If you took over programming a venue, what would you perfect line-up of comedians be?

Bill Cosby followed by Judd Apatow.

9. Name the one person you'd rather not bump into during the festival.

My Mum. I will be furious if she shows up.

10. Why should audiences pick your show over the 1,700+ other comedy offerings at this year's festival?

Because they might prefer their comedy with a heavy, heavy set of eyebrows.

'Brett Goldstein: Burning Man' is at 9:30pm at Pleasance Courtyard on 5-16, 18-31 August. Listing
