Edinburgh Q and A

Bafflesmash answers 10 Edinburgh Fringe Questions

Bafflemash

Bafflesmash are Jamie Armitage, Tom Fairbairn and Robert Oldham. They've somehow managed to get a Nietzsche quote into their answers...

1. Tell us about your career so far. Are you happy with where you're at?

We started doing comedy at university in 2013, and this will be our third full show together, not counting open mic nights and forays into stand-up. Are we happy with where we're at? Yeah definitely, we're in Tom's kitchen at the moment and it's really nice.

2. Describe your show in exactly 23 words.

It's a giant and not-totally-in-control fireball of laughter. It's 'Baffle' because we're baffled about things, and 'Smash' because ... smash. Ho. Ho. Ho.

3. Why are you putting yourselves through this famously stressful experience?

Well, Friedrich Nietzsche says 'One must still have chaos within oneself to be able to give birth to a dancing star'. But then again, Rob has chaos in himself but he only gave birth to a goat.

4. Any cunning plans to get more punters in?

We've come up with this crazy scheme whereby we give out pieces of A6 paper with all the details of the show to passers-by. You can also find us on Twitter, @Bafflesmash.

5. How much money do you think you'll lose/make this year?

That's a very personal question. Maybe a tenner?

6. What's your weirdest past Fringe experience?

Tom played an ambulance in 2013. Jamie played a dead body in 2012 and had an out of body experience brought on by extreme boredom.

7. What other shows are you hoping to see?

James Acaster, Liam Williams, Daphne, Bridget Christie, and many more.

8. If you took over programming a venue, what would your perfect line-up of comedians be?

Peter Cook and Dudley Moore doing sketches, compered by Chris Morris. With an hour of anecdotes from Eric Cantona.

9. Name the one person you'd rather not bump into during the festival.

Barack Obama. He's got more important things to be doing.

10. Why should audiences pick your show over the 1,700+ other comedy offerings at this year's festival?

It's a high-energy, surreal and satirical hour of sketches, and it's completely free. See you there. Please.

'Bafflesmash' is at 9:15pm at Espionage on 5-16, 18-30 August. Listing
