Andrew Ryan answers 10 Edinburgh Fringe Questions
Andrew Ryan answers our 10 questions, and talks about being mistaken for Ardal O'Hanlon.
1. Tell us about your career so far. Are you happy with where you're at?
I started in 2008, of course I'm happy. I love it. It is not a career, it's just a lot of fun and every day is different. You can't plan it, there is no course to follow, you just have to see what happens and if people like what you do then more people come.
2. Describe your show in exactly 23 words.
It starts at 7:50pm and will be finished by 8:50pm. In that hour there will be jokes, intro music, lighting, and mic technique.
3. Why are you putting yourself through this famously stressful experience?
It is not that stressful. You can control your 1 hour show, everything that happens around it is out of your control. The biggest stress is just eating right!
4. Any cunning plans to get more punters in?
No, I would not wanna trick people in to coming. Hopefully word of mouth, which is the best form of advertising, is good this year.
5. How much money do you think you'll lose/make this year?
I expect to be a millionaire before the opening night.
6. What's your weirdest past Fringe experience?
Someone came to my show in 2010 and after about 5 minutes he thought he was seeing Ardal O'Hanlon. He was brought to the gig and when I appeared he thought I was warming up for him. He left. To this day I don't understand what fully happened but he came in with a friend and for some reason cos I look like him he just presumed I was him. I hope he is still sat at home angry about it. Which I would be delighted about!
7. What other shows are you hoping to see?
I'm really looking forward to watching Better Call Saul, Orange is the New Black and Peaky Blinders when I'm up there. All available on Netflix.
8. If you took over programming a venue, what would you perfect line-up of comedians be?
I would MC it. Roy Keane would open it then am pretty sure we would have to stop the gig as they're would be an argument with the audience.
9. Name the one person you'd rather not bump into during the festival.
The person that walked out of my show in 2010.
10. Why should audiences pick your show over the 1,700+ other comedy offerings at this year's festival?
It is a funny show, a show, not just banter or tricks. It's a proper show mate.
'Andrew Ryan: Perfectly Inadequate' is at 7:50pm at Assembly George Square Studios on 5-16, 18-30 August. Listing
