As we inch towards a more progressive society, 20th century ideals are beginning to fade and male identity is undergoing a cultural shift; aware archetypal masculinity is defunct, double Edinburgh Comedy Award nominee Carl Donnelly will explore how this is manifesting today and what it is to be a man in 2015 in his brand new show Jive Ass Honky which he will perform for a month long run at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
An Edinburgh Fringe favourite, Carl's conversational style of comedy has landed him a nomination for the 2013 Edinburgh Comedy Award and a 2009 nomination for Best Newcomer. He has won Best Newcomer at The Chortle Awards (2007) Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year (2007) and Laughing Horse New Act of the Year (2006). Known internationally as well as in the UK, Carl has performed at some of the biggest comedy festivals in the world including; Montreal Just for Laughs, Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Sydney Comedy Festival and Kilkenny Cat Laughs.
Most recently Carl performed on Russell Howard's Stand Up Central (Comedy Central), adding to a list of multiple television appearances including Mock The Week (BBC Two), Russell Howard's Good News (BBC Three), Stand Up For The Week (Channel 4) and Dave's One Night Stand. His radio credits include: BBC 5Live's The Back End of Next Week, Loose Ends (BBC Radio 4), Act Your Age (BBC Radio 4) and is a regular guest on talkSPORT.
In 2013 Carl and fellow-comic Chris Martin re-launched the Carl Donnelly and Chris Martin Comedy Podcast on Soundcloud which has gained over 40,000 subscribers to date. The boys podcasted throughout the Edinburgh Festival Fringe that year and were joined by a host of comic guests and are set to return again this August with a fresh line-up.
