2014 Edinburgh Fringe
Victor Pope - Infinitely More Deluded
When did kissing and cuddling become vanilla? When did it become cool to be a geek? Are all failed artists doomed to work in Kwik Fit? What if Jesus Christ was a republican? Self-deprecating, self-serving and occasionally self-harming, enjoy the dulcet tones and tall tales of Teeside's troubled troubadour once more. 'The campaign for real music starts afresh and it starts right here, with the perennially (and clearly perpetually) underachieving Victor Pope' (Everett True, VillageVoice.com). 'Like Billy Bragg armed with a drum machine and on acid' (Hyde Park Heat).

The Victor Pope three minute interview
Self-deprecating, self-serving and occasionally self-harming, this Edinburgh Festival Fringe you can enjoy the dulcet tones and tall tales of Teesside's troubled troubadour in Victor Pope's new show, Infinitely More Deluded. Martin Walker seeks an explanation.
Martin Walker, Broadway Baby, 26th June 2014More details
The show will be largely made up of irreverent and hopefully hilarious songs covering everything from blasphemy to dentistry with a little sadomasochism along the way. There'll also be a mix of comedy poetry, amusing set pieces and wry observations. The musical influences come courtesy of the post-punk troubadourism of the likes of Wreckless Eric and Jon Otway where as his literary ones come more from Jon Cooper Clarke and maybe a little Harvey Pekar (American Splendour). Three chords and the truth (with maybe the odd major 7th thrown in along the way)!
Victor started his life in showbiz in his teenage years as an actor starring as, among others, Azdak in Brecht's The Caucasian Chalk Circle and Sganarelle in Moliere's Sganarelle. However, he soon tired of this and moved on to rock and roll, forming his first psychedelic punk band, the Careful Movers, aged 16. Since then he has played in a number of different bands of various styles and solo consistently making experimental, often controversial and frequently hilarious music. In 2011 he decided to push himself a little further by attempting a fringe show called The Infinite Delusions of Victor Pope. Three years later, after accumulating enough new material and by popular demand, Victor has decided to throw himself to the lions once more.
