Patrick Turpin: A Brother for Jonathan
Turps is an idiot, and this is his song. An hour of sentimental mush, misguided enthusiasm, and some divvy chat about his Dad (also Turps). Part stand-up, part anecdotal love-in; this is Turps at his sassy best. He's performed at Glastonbury and Latitude, and pops up at gigs in London. 'A voice so expressive it seemed to simply invite laughter' **** (ThreeWeeks). 'Turpin only needs to stand on the stage to provoke giggles from the audience' **** (BroadwayBaby.com). 'Worth more than its weight in comedy gold' (SuitcaseMag.com). **** (Scotsman).

The much-anticipated solo debut from award-winner, and former member of acclaimed sketch try-hards The Leeds Tealights.
Exciting newcomer Patrick Turpin was and is A Brother for Jonathan, an hour of sentimental mush, misguided enthusiasm, and divvy chat about his Dad. Part stand-up, part anecdotal love-in; this is Turpy at his sassy best.
Unpacking his Kodak S-AV 2020 - an analogue carousel projector from 1979 - and a fistful of old photographs, Turpin sifts through his past with a fine tooth comb. Settling on the unresolved anxieties of his youth, he draws inviting connections between the narratives that the photographic moments intersect. This is an hour of warm-hearted resolution; a reclamation of the weakness of old.
Last year he directed Mae Martin (Russell Howard's Good News) in her second Fringe show Mae Martin: Slumber Party, and acclaimed sketch collective The Leeds Tealights in The Leeds Tealights: The Ultimate Indoor Experience (Just The Tonic).
As well as having spent the last two years gigging on London's alternative circuit (including appearances at the Alternative Comedy Memorial Society, PLEB Talks Live, and Comedy Club 4 Kids) Patrick has performed at Latitude and Glastonbury Festivals, guest-blogged for The Independent and was included in Loaded Magazine's 'Jokes of the Fringe' 2012 spread.
Patrick's 2013 and 2012 Edinburgh Fringe runs included solo appearances as part of a double-header with Jack Barry ('Could well go on to be big stars of the comedy circuit' ThreeWeeks); shows with his sketch group HMS Ship ('Exciting newcomers' Spoonfed); and a 45-minute solo work-in-progress offering ('Worth more than its weight in comedy gold' - Suitcase Magazine).
Patrick first performed at the Fringe in 2008. He appeared in Mark Watson's Fringe First-winning installation The Hotel (The Invisible Dot Ltd.) in 2009, and in 2010, during his time as a student in Leeds, he won a National Student Radio Award and a National Student Television Award.
