2014 Edinburgh Fringe
Matthew Highton's Good Luck Sleeping Jerks
A strange uplifting new comedy from a master storyteller about sleep problems, past, family and featuring a haunted doll. A cult must-see and a key member of alternative favourites Weirdos, 'the closest thing we have to a modern day comic strip' (Steve Bennett, Chortle.co.uk). If you like comedy 'wonderfully surreal' (Guardian) and 'disorientating, bizarre and rather brilliant' **** (BroadwayBaby.com) it's a show for you, jerks! PWYW = Pay What You Want on exit... Laugh Out London, 2nd July 2014The Matthew Highton three minute interview
Matthew Highton is a comedian, a surreal storyteller and risky abstractionist known for an unpredictable and off the wall approach to comedy. His 2014 Edinburgh Festival Fringe show, Matthew Highton's Good Luck Sleeping Jerks is being quietly mooted as one to watch this year.
Martin Walker, Broadway Baby, 2nd July 2014More details
Matthew Highton is a key member of the Chortle nominated Weirdos collective ("the closest thing we have to a modern day comic strip" - Chortle) and co-writer and director of their cult anarchic pantomime and smash hit The Colonel ('Top Ten Christmas shows 2013' Time Out and The Independent). He also plays a lead role in the sell out show Knightmare Live, which is revisiting the Fringe this year at the Pleasance Courtyard. Matthew is also collaborating on a new venture with Eric Lampeart entitled Comedy Cine Club. First and foremost though, he is bringing his exciting new show to the Fringe in the form of the aptly titled Good Luck Sleeping Jerks!
Renowned for his surreal storytelling, this year Highton is uncharacteristically steering toward the truth. Trudging through the past, he offers a strange and uplifting comedy based on his plethora of sleep problems (insomnia, night terrors, sleep talking, walking, apnoea, paranoia, the list goes on...) and exploring notions of masculinity amongst a fragile family history, that lead up to the Christmas Day when his father and brother simultaneously gave him a black eye.
Whilst truth may be on the cards, it's offered up in fresh, enthralling and unusual way, spread through a series of charming, captivating and occasionally dark stories that will leave you gripped, laughing and aching for more.
Highton's sidekick Bero, the mechanized and incredibly creepy doll, will also be back by popular demand.
