Edinburgh Fringe preview: Jody Kamali
Jody Kamali is probably best known for his YouTube character, Terry the Odd Job Man. No stranger to performing at the Edinburgh Fringe, Jody is currently working on his eighth outing, Jody Kamali - One Man Variety Show.
The Public Reviews, 6th July 2014More details
Variety performers and their skills have always captivated Jody Kamali. What if he could be one? But not just one, what if he could be the singer, the juggler, the magician...the, er, vampire? Well, there are no more 'what ifs?' - the time is now for the paciest physical comedy show you will see on the Fringe: one man, one mission, seven characters.
After sell-out shows in Leicester, Bath and Brighton, Jody Kamali brings One Man Variety Show to the Edinburgh Fringe. An irresistible hour of clowning, character comedy and ludicrous slapstick, in a modern take on Vaudeville and Variety.
Expect: The Incredible Man of Mystery - a flamboyant, dramatic pastiche of a magician, who dazzles the audience with his facial expressions as well as his tricks; Victor the Blood Sucking Vampire - fake teeth, fake limbs, and hungry for a virgin's fake blood - all horrifyingly ridiculous in the spirit of the Hammer Films. Mario Maricini - the operatic tenor, reciting opera numbers as you've never heard them before; The Silent Healer: who gracefully floats amongst the audience, tuning in to their auras, with his special powers. Bathe and relax in the healing vibrations of this powerful man, a journey for the senses. All these and more - all hosted by variety legend, nasal-voiced, showbiz maestro Frank Valentine.
One Man Variety Show is Jody Kamali's fifth solo show at the Edinburgh Fringe. He's a regular performer on the variety and comedy circuit in the UK. He's well known in his native Bristol for his YouTube character, 'Terry The Odd Job Man', and for a series of short comedy films shot in and around the city. Jody is of Half Iranian origin - hence he is occasionally asked to audition for a Middle Eastern tyrant.
Kamali's bizarre and eclectic character creations are all deftly put together by Aitor Basauri. Aitor Basauri is a member of critically acclaimed clown theatre troupe Spymonkey. He is one of the world's most sought-after clowning teachers and regularly teaches at Philippe Gaulier School in Paris.
