2014 Edinburgh Fringe
Jason Cook: Broken
Award-winning comedian, writer, creator and star of BBC2's Hebburn and Radio4's Jason Cook's School of Hard Knocks returns with a show about, well, being broken. Having gained fans for his work in television and radio, Jason is back on the Fringe doing what he does best, lightning-fast stand-up in front of a live audience. Always welcoming, never bullying, the self-deprecating Geordie idiot has found himself in situations he never dreamed of. Come and see how he's mucked them all up this time. 'Carves a rich, deep, consistent groove of humour at the Fringe' (Scotsman).

Edinburgh fringe 2014: the 10 best jokes so far
Our roundup of the best standup gags at this year's festival.
James Kettle, The Guardian, 12th August 2014More details
Fresh from winning 'Best Drama' at the Royal Television Awards for his hit BBC2 series Hebburn, Jason is back and ready to take the Edinburgh Fringe by storm with his new show Broken. His show, the first since 2011, explores change and how we might resist it with the evolution of life being the key to happiness.
Jason Cook is a broken man - his life, wife, child and comedy have all conspired to create a shell of a man, incapable of being taken into polite company and doing nothing but what he is told to. But he also believes the joy of life is making all the things he might moan about turn his life around into richer and happier one!
Following a run of critically acclaimed shows in the Edinburgh festival from 2007-2011, Jason's script for Hebburn ("One of the best comedies around" - The Sunday Times) was picked up by the BBC and made into a series starring Vic Reeves, Gina McKee, Kimberley Nixon, Chris Ramsey and Jason himself. It is now being shown in Canada, Australia and all over Europe. Hebburn has also been sold to Happy Madison Productions (Rules of Engagement/The Goldbergs), which is part owned by Adam Sandler, for development in America for ABC. Scriptwriter Tom Hertz has been brought in to work on the script. Jason currently has several other scripts in development in the UK.
Jason Cook is in demand globally and amongst all this he found time to fly to New Zealand to host their televised Christmas Stand Up Gala, write the BBC Feed my Funny pilot C-Bomb and create and record his own Radio 4 series Jason Cook's School of Hard Knocks. All while still maintaining a full diary of stand up, his first love, all over the world.
Jason Cook started in comedy with a Newcastle sketch troupe known as Soup, before moving into stand-up around Tyneside, regularly compering Newcastle's Hyena Club. He was one half of spoof German techno band Die Clatterschenkenfietermaus, Karl Karl, and in 2007 he took his first solo stand up show, Confessions, to the Edinburgh fringe. He was nominated best compere in the 2010 Chortle awards.
