Tim Renkow wins Amused Moose Laugh Off 2014

Tim Renkow

Tim Renkow has been named the winner of the Amused Moose Laugh Off 2014 competition.

Renkow is a Mexican born comic who now lives in London. The comedian, who has cerebral palsy, won the Leicester Square New Comedian of the Year competition last year too.

He was crowned the winner of the Amused Moose competition at a final held this afternoon at the Edinburgh Festival. His Fringe show, titled At Least Hell Has Ramps, is on daily at the Heroes @ The Hive venue at 6pm during the festival.

The listings blurb describes his show as follows: "Come explore the funny side of being judged on appearance, violence and God with Tim's dark yet cheerful sense of humour. If you believe you will go to hell for laughing at the disabled (he also happens to have cerebral palsy), Tim says: see you there."

The Amused Moose Laugh Off competition aims to name the best new comedy talent at the Edinburgh Fringe. This year over 700 acts took part in heats around the UK in a hope to make it to the final.

Renkow now joins a list of previous winners including Sarah Millican and Jack Whitehall in the Amused Moose Laugh Off Hall of Fame, and takes away the £1500 prize money and a shiny moose trophy. Archie Maddocks and Don Tran were named the runners up.

The final, hosted by Holly Walsh, was held at theSPACE @ Symposium Hall venue in Edinburgh. The show got off to a late start after a broken lift trapped two of the finalists. The organisers say: "Luckily they proved their worth and performed brilliantly - both earning a spot in the top three."

The awards were presented by Kath Mainland (CEO of the Edinburgh Fringe) and Janet Shaw (BBC Comedy).

Renkow, Maddocks and Tran, alongside the winner of the Amused Moose Laughter Award 2014 (which is the competition for established acts who don't yet have a DVD deal, the final of which takes place on Sunday 17th August), will feature in the Amused Moose Comedy Awards Showcases at London's Soho Theatre this Autumn.

The other acts to make it through to the final were Rob Auton, Penella Mellor, Kiri Pritchard McLean and Brennan Reece.
