2014 Edinburgh Fringe

Three Edinburgh Fringe comedy shows to be screened at cinemas nationwide

Four Screws Loose

Three comedy shows at the Edinburgh Fringe are going to be screened at ODEON venues nationwide.

The cinema chain has teamed up with digital arts company Hibrow to beam, via satellite, a number of shows at the festival to cinema audiences around the UK. There will be eight shows involved in total under the 'Hibrow Hour' banner; spanning theatre, comedy, opera and visual art. Three of the selected productions are comedies. The shows will be performed live at the Summerhall venue in the city, and then shown in cinemas around the UK a few hours later.

On 6th August, Jonny & The Baptists - the musical comedians who hit the headlines with their song about UKIP - will perform an hour long show featuring 'high-calibre musical comedy with political bite'.

The second comedy offering will be on the 12th August, when comic group Four Screws Loose (pictured) take to the stage to perform some of their high energy sketches.

The final Hibrow Comedy Hour performance, scheduled for the 20th August, sees winner of the Spirit of the Fringe and Three Weeks Editor Awards, Sarah-Louise Young, returning as Cabaret Whore for an evening of character comedy and 'glittering original songs'. She will introduce 'desperate divas from around the globe, from tortured French chanteuse La Poule Plombée to washed up lounge crooner Bernie St Clair'.

The organisers say: "These screenings offer the first opportunity to combine the thrill of artistic discovery that only the Edinburgh Festival Fringe can offer with the unparalleled pleasure of a trip to the Cinema."

Don Boyd, Artistic Director for Hibrow, comments: "Our Hibrow Hour at Summerhall was conceived with the intention of offering audiences everywhere a flavour of Edinburgh's creative buzz in August. Our relationship with Odeon has given us the opportunity to fulfil that ambition and so extend the great work pioneered by the National Theatre and the Royal Opera House in bringing exciting new shows to local cinemas all over the country."
