Celia Pacquola wins Amused Moose Laughter Award 2014
Celia Pacquola has been named the winner of the Amused Moose Laughter Award 2014.
The stand-up comedian beat over 100 other hopefuls to take the title. The awards aim to discover the best shows at the Edinburgh Fringe festival by performers who do not have a current DVD deal or option.
Pacquola, who is performing her show Let Me Know How It All Works Out daily at the Gilded Balloon until the 25th August, is from Australia. Talking about winning, she said: "I'm really stunned, thrilled and excited. It was very unexpected and I'm looking forward to trying to get my pointy, dangerous Moose through airport security."
The result was decided by an industry panel who viewed the entries online before seeing the longlisted shows live in Edinburgh.
The 'People's Choice Award', which is based on votes from the audience at the live final which took place this afternoon (Sunday 17th August), went to Chris Turner.
Pacquola and Turner share the £5000 prize money for the development of their comedy careers and a commercial standard DVD recording. They also both get a shiny moose trophy too.
The runner up was Trygve Wakenshaw, for his show Kraken. The other Amused Moose Laughter Award finalists, who all performed ten minutes from their shows at today's final, were: BEASTS, Loretta Maine, Lou Sanders, Pierre Novellie, Ria Lina, Rob Deering and Tom Toal.
A selection of the finalists will perform as part of the Amused Moose Comedy Awards Showcases at the Soho Theatre this October.
Information about entering the Amused Moose Laughter Award 2015, and its sister competition for newer acts, will appear on www.AmusedMoose.com at the end of 2014.
