2014 Edinburgh Fringe

Yoghurt pot flyers

We've seen all kinds of marketing tactics and flyer designs this festival. John Fleming has already documented some of the best via his blog, for example Ben Target's blank flyers and Christian Talbot getting his young daughter to look lost

Here's another to add to that list. It's a neat design by Portsmouth-based comedian and first time Fringer, Adam Broomfield-Strawn.

Instead of following convention and producing posters and traditional flyers for his show, Someone's Pinched Me Yoghurt!, he's decided to try something a little different:

Adam Broomfield-Strawn's 2014 Edinburgh Fringe flyer

Adam explains: "I kept on hearing and reading about people's experience of The Fringe and trying to get people to their show, and it sounded like everyone was doing the same things, flyering like mad and putting posters up everywhere, and getting the same sort of result, i.e.; attendance numbers completely ungoverned or unaffected by the fliers and posters used by the artists.

Adam Broomfield-Strawn

"It just seemed to me that, if the audience wasn't coming because of what the artist was doing, then what was the point of doing it? In an ocean of posters and fliers no one is going to notice one wave from the next.

"I decided to try something different and, as my show is called Someone's Pinched Me Yoghurt!, it just seemed natural to use recycled yoghurt pots. I have 2 children who go through these strawberry yoghurts at a rate of about 10 per day so the supply was already there. All I had to do was wash them out and dry them before attaching the labels.

"The advantage of using yoghurt pots, apart from the obvious cost saving, is that the audience are asked to return them to the venue which means they can be used again the next day. So not only am I recycling them but the audience is too! I also figured that if people were being handed paper fliers all day long then the fact that my flyer is a yoghurt pot with a label on it would be something that would stick in their mind and, hopefully, make them want to come to my show!"

Adam concludes: "This is my first time attending the Fringe so I figured I had nothing to lose. The show is there, the venues are there, I'll be there, all I need now is for the audience to be there! Full house or not, I'm looking forward to taking my show up and experiencing it all for the first time."

For those that don't get one of these unique flyers, here's details on Adam's show. 'Someone's Pinched Me Yoghurt!' is on at 3:45pm at The George Next Door until the 23rd August; and at 6:30pm at The Citrus Club until the 22nd August. Listing
