One of Scotland's favourite comedians is at a crossroads in life and there are some things he needs to get off his chest. Des Clarke returns to the Fringe after a year off, and this time it's personal.
The presenter of Capital FM's Breakfast Show and Daily Record columnist has come a long way since he was voted runner up in Channel 4's So You Think You're Funny competition. In a career that has spanned 14 years, Des's first mainstream break came when he took over from Ant & Dec on the ever-popular children's show SMTV Live. He has since become a television household name, especially in his native Scotland, starring in numerous TV shows including hosting BBC Scotland's coverage of Children In Need. He has gone on to appear on the likes of Comedy Fest Live (BBC Three), Live Floor Show (BBC1), Club Cupid (STV), Whatever (Sky 1), Offside (BBC1) and Sportsround (BBC2).
Des is as big a radio star as he is in TV and, ten years after winning Presenter of the Year at the British Radio Awards in 2004, Des has just been awarded the Outstanding Contribution Award at the Scottish Variety Awards. He later moved to XFM, which soon became Galaxy Scotland and then Capital FM, and has been hosting the Breakfast Show since 2008. He's even a dab-hand at theatre these days, starring as the lead comic roles in Cinderella and Aladdin at the Kings Theatre in Glasgow.
Comedy however is still his first love after he won his school talent show in the 1990's. He is a regular performer at the highly regarded comedy clubs The Stand and the Comedy Store and has toured worldwide from New York to Adelaide to Dubai. The Trouble With Being Des will be his 7th Fringe show.
