Stand-up comedy's foremost creepy-faced ginger man, star of BBC1's Live at the Apollo and a regular on Channel 4's Stand-Up For The Week. Star of three series of his own acclaimed show on BBC Radio 4. Yet none of it has brought him any joy. Come and laugh in his stupid face at his disappointing life and some amusing thoughts he's cobbled together about how awful the world is as he embarks on his fifth consecutive sell-out UK tour. 'Stand-up's leading exponent of misanthropy and misery' (Independent). 'Thoroughly diseased, intoxicatingly funny comedy' (Guardian).

3 To See ED2014: Comedy misery and death, yay!

Welcome to the Edinburgh Festival of comedy and joy. And now here's ThreeWeeks Co-Editor Caro Moses with three comedy shows about misery and death. Though some of the dying is metaphorical, if that helps. Enjoy.

Seven comedy acts not to be missed

The Edinburgh Fringe Festival kicks off in less than a fortnight with nearly 60,000 performances expected to take place. Fringe 2014: the 10 best show titles this year

With the bulk of the 2014 Edinburgh Fringe listings released yesterday, we've spent the past 24 hours sifting through the lot. They say a good show title can put bums on seats - and if that's true, these ten comedians are in for a treat this August.

Having sold well over 10,000 tickets on his fifth consecutive UK tour earlier this year, Andrew Lawrence's popularity with stand-up audiences continues to grow at an astounding rate.

He has forged this sizeable loyal following through the exceptionally high quality of his live work and he now returns to the Edinburgh Fringe with an incredible all-new stand-up show (the ninth in as many years) before he renews his relentless touring schedule.

Dark and uncompromising, with a fantastic instinct for a killer punchline, gloriously funny rants, lightening-witted audience interaction and inspired social commentary - Andrew has formidable range and is one of very few comedians appearing at the Fringe who generates an entirely new tour show every single year and is well known and respected amongst comics for his extraordinarily prolific output.

His stand-up has always been distinctive, ground-breaking, original and entirely different from anything anybody else is doing. The instantly recognisable misanthropic tone of his comedy has been a heavy and unmistakable influence on many newer comics breaking through at the Fringe over the past few years.

As seen on BBC1's Live At The Apollo as well as three series of BBC Three sitcom Ideal, star of C4's Stand Up For The Week, star of three acclaimed BBC Radio 4 series in his own name, a double Edinburgh Comedy Award nominee, a Sony Radio Award nominee, twice nominated Best Headline Act at the Chortle Awards, twice invited to perform at both the prestigious Montreal Just For Laughs Festival and The Melbourne international Comedy Festival.

An act who, with a quietly industrious approach, has well and truly paid his dues and earned the place he now holds at the top table of stand-up comedy in the UK - No easy breaks, just honest talent and hard work.
