Bingo! Double-act discover new comedy outlet

Horse & Louis' Comedy Bingo!

Last night (Friday 17th August) a new comedy format popped into existence. Eyes down as we tell you about it...

This festival, musical double act Horse & Louis have planned two unique comedy shows at the New Empire Bingo venue on Nicholson Street. Featuring an array of guests, ludicrous comedy sketches and other shenanigans, Horse & Louis' Comedy Bingo! mixes a bit of gambling with lots of comedy. The first show was last night (pictured), and the second is tonight (Saturday 18th August).

The main thrust of the format sees the audience batter each other in a unique game of visual bingo, with a real cash prize up for grabs. Last night just under £300 was won for the price of a £1 ticket.

The duo say: "This is bingo with a twist and a slice of lemon. Yes, it's still taking place at a huge, real-life, working bingo hall in the heart of Edinburgh. True, there are still cards, dabbers, big prizes for a line or a full house... The only thing missing is the numbers. So you're not looking out for 13, 21 or 88 any more, you're looking out for 'Ape in a toga', 'Light aircraft' and 'An awkward situation involving broccoli'. HOUSE!"

If you want to get involved you'll have to be quick about it and get down to the venue. The final show is tonight (Saturday 18th August) at 9:30pm, featuring guests James Acaster, Benny Boot, Mae Martin, Casual Violence, Ray Guns Look Real Enough and Ian Smith.

If you're reading this after the event, sorry you missed it, but hopefully the format has proved enough of a success it'll be back next year - so keep an eye out when looking through the 2014 programme.
