2011 Edinburgh Fringe
Tiffany Stevenson review
Tiffany Stevenson returns to Edinburgh this year with a strong hour. Focusing upon many subjects - from Mice to Abortion - Stevenson is confident communicating on a wide range of topics. The jokes are for the most part well thought out and funny, and her confident and slightly abrasive style captures the audience well.
Stevenson effortlessly incorporates political points and messages, whilst always remaining funny. She has a very good grasp of comedic techniques, timing and structure and uses all to great effect. A relatable performer, she does a good job of bringing the audience along on her journey.
Where Stevenson does fall down slightly is through the audience rapport which don't seem to go in any particular direction, nor is given enough time to justify trying. On the afternoon of this review the audience seemed a little unruly, and this continued throughout the course of the show. In situations like this Stevenson could afford to be a little more controlling over the situation and not be afraid to educate an inexperienced stand-up audience on the protocols of a gig.
Stevenson did occasionally appear to be going into auto pilot with the her excellent material which was a bit frustrating, particularly the noticeably slow beginning to the show, however as it progressed her passion did seem to rise to the top. Although Cavewoman was only loosely threaded together, this was enough to provide a showcase for this well-honed material. Overall a strong offering.
