Rich Fulcher review

Rich Fulcher

This year Rich Fulcher is presenting a mock lecture in 'how to perform tiny acts of rebellion'. And it's fantastic. Taking the audience from novice rebellions, this crash course is designed to graduate individuals to fully fledged tiny rebels.

With a theme such as this, it could be very easy for the show to become 'samey'. However, Tiny Acts Of Rebellion is filled with variety, and this is helped greatly by the incorporation of an assistant who adds a great dynamic to the show. The audience is not only (hilariously) lectured at, but is taken on journeys through different situations, shown demonstrations of these in effect, and even involved with the show themselves. Theatrically pleasing; sounds, props, skits and visuals are incorporated in this show to very good effect.

The material was brilliantly surreal, yet not so obscure as to alienate the slightly more mainstream audience. All was delivered with conviction from Fulcher, who played his role very well - owning the stage with real charisma. Not once did Fulcher scream or go mad - it felt like a very honest and heartfelt performance, which was quite a skill considering the obscurity of the subject matter. Audience participation was also excellently incorporated into proceedings, especially considering Fulcher's occasionally unruly audience. Whether audience members were shouting out suggestions, or being involved on stage, the Mighty Boosh star had control of the situation at all times.

Fulcher describes himself as lazy, but you can just feel the show has been very well crafted. People who are lucky enough to witness (or graduate from) this show will forever be left with at least a few tiny acts of rebellion stuck in the mind.
