2011 Edinburgh Fringe
Lloyd Langford review
With his kind-hearted and innocent-sounding Welsh personality, Lloyd Langford warms up with a little crowd banter before breaking into this rather enjoyable hour of stories and gags.
His show, The Cold Hard Facts of Life, takes a humorous look at facts and trivia as well as a mix of some observational jokes, anecdotes from his past, and a peculiar fantasy involving birds. Langford manages that tricky task of making you laugh while simultaneously feeding you trivia that is sure to be stuck in your head like an afternoon trawling Wikipedia.
Keeping to the comedy norm of themes; very sharp knives, low-viewership Welsh TV, clingfilm and supermarkets, Langford manages to keep you enthralled in every story. There is a neat little observation involving the 3D side of cinema, and his routine on mouse catching is a spark of joy to observe. His look back to his previous job working in a factory is both amusing and depressing, involving a pretty unpleasant "joke" from his then boss.
During this particular gig, Langford was interrupted occasionally by a drunk man. However, the comic got his own back in good time. While it isn't part of the show of course, it does illustrate how in control of the audience comedians have to be... and tonight Langford nailed it well.
If you want a cheery hour about clingfilm, knives and mice, give Lloyd Langford some consideration. Sure to bring a laugh and smile to any age.
