This Summer, get close, get personal... get Balls Deep! Rayguns Look Real Enough, the comedy mash-up phenomenon return to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe this summer. Performing at the Assembly George Square Three, they will be subjecting all those who see them to their infectious, catchy, sing-a-long, rock themed show, Balls Deep.
Rayguns Look Real Enough were a band on the rise. The soundtrack of a generation, riding the crest of a rock'n'roll wave until one day disaster struck! Balls Deep finds the band exiled from their stadium tour, dropped by their record label, and trawling around Edinburgh investigating the disappearance of their rhythm section. Lead singer Ray Gun has found it hardest to cope. With his breakdown manifesting itself in the form of his on-stage persona, he's gone from catsuit-wearing to full blown cat! Lead guitarist Luke Real steadies the ship as the band attempts to get another bite of the big time at any cost.
Featuring high quality musicality and insane mash-ups this is a show about a huge talent coming to terms with mediocrity. Laugh, cheer, and sing along to the story of one band's rise and fall, and one man's struggle with his inner tiger.
Ever since their conception two years ago Rayguns Look Real Enough have been wowing audiences and industry alike with their unique blend of comedy and mash-ups. Taking only the best bits of the best songs, coupled with all the bravado and peacock strutting of a massive stadium band, Rayguns Look Real Enough deliver an unrivalled entertainment experience combining comedy, cabaret and live rock music and deliver them to you, in one fell swoop! Ryan and Paul met several years ago on the European Theatre circuit. They began their musical journey on the beach, playing medleys of 60s songs and have been taking the comedy circuit by storm.
Ryan Beange (Ray Gun) hails from the home of rock and roll - Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire. (Where Kajagoogoo are from!) He studied acting at the Italia Conti Academy and has performed in all manner of venues, from The Royal Albert Hall at Andrew Lloyd Webber's 50th birthday celebrations, to a tiny residential home living room singing Rat Pack songs. After many short films and TIE projects he went to work for The English Theatre Company in Barcelona where he met Paul and the rest as they say is history.
Paul Flannery (Luke Real) is a self taught guitarist, from the age of 11 and spent his teenage years appearing in various local rock/funk bands. He began acting during the summer of 2002 when he won the Raw Theatre Improv Tournament at the Merton Abbey Mills Festival. After that and, armed with no formal training, Paul worked successfully as an actor for 4 years before meeting Ryan on a theatre tour in Spain.
They have played clubs, events and festivals such as St Mary's Stadium, Time Out Laugh Out Loud and Download. Rayguns Look Real Enough have also featured at The Leicester Comedy Festival, reached the Musical Comedy Awards quarter final and opened for We Will Rock You at The Cardiff Millennium Centre. They are now regular hosts of Saturday Night Live at The Leicester Square Theatre and have played alongside Rufus Hound, Mitch Benn and Shappi Khorsandi. They have supported Calvin Harris and Chesney Hawkes as well as sharing the bill with fantastic cabaret acts such as Meow Meow.
