Othello?
William Shakespeare's Othello is nothing if not a multi-layered play. At first glance, it is a tragedy of a general's destruction at the hands of his ancient. At a closer look, we can see the genre of tragedy being subverted. The play actually begins in the manner of a comedy with the magnifico Brabantio running around Venice in his nightgown. Even the status of protagonist is questionable with Iago having more lines than the title character. It is with this attitude of questioning that Deus Ex Machina Productions presents Othello? as a black comedy (no pun intended).
