America's $1 funnyman Neil Hamburger returns! The hardest working and most profoundly suffering comedian in existence, Neil's unique brand of comedy has thrilled, perplexed and repulsed audiences worldwide. Audacious, uncompromising and subversive, don't miss the chance to see this cult icon perform at the fringe. 'Peerless' ***** (Scotsman), 'A phlegm-filled sack of putrid self-loathing... truly extraordinary' ***** (Chortle.co.uk), 'One of the funniest comedians in the country' (New York Times).

More details

Following his five-star festival debut in 2010, comedy's most audacious, uncompromising, subversive and original performer, Neil Hamburger returns to the UK to premiere his new show Discounted Entertainer at Assembly, before moving on to a London run at Soho Theatre.

America's $1 Funnyman is undoubtedly the hardest working and most profoundly suffering comedian in existence. Targeting celebrities, the dead, modern life and / or his ex-wife, his jokes are delivered on stage in a tuxedo that's seen better days and a hair comb-over slicked with at least two tubs of grease. His timing off, the delivery muddled and constant clearing of his phlegm-filled throat mid-joke has audiences thrilled, perplexed and even repulsed simultaneously.

His unique style of (anti) comedy has awarded him with cult-icon status amongst fellow performers. He's appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live and Tom Green Live! as well as having performed the opening act for many touring bands including Faith No More, Tenacious D, Fantomas, Puscifer and Bonnie Prince Billy (who he has also made four TV commercials for). He has toured Canada five times, Australia 14 times and appeared at Dublin's Carlsberg Comedy Carnival, Chicago Comedy Festival, All Tomorrow's Parties, Fun Fun Fun Fest (Austin, Texas), Big Day Out (Australia) and Montreal's Just for Laughs.

Performing at Edinburgh Fringe for just two weeks, followed by a return London season at Soho Theatre, Neil Hamburger is a must-see for those who like comedy brilliantly odd, filthy and unremitting.

User reviews

This was the worst comedy performance I have ever attended. My 5 companions were equally bemused at this lame attempt at humour. Maybe we Brits just don't get it! The few chucklers behind me must have been paid to laugh. Absolute rubbish, don't waste your money!
