You could cut the sexual tension between Kristen Schaal and Kurt Braunohler with a knife, finds Jay Richardson. But these comedy partners are only playing it for laughs.

Kristen Schaal (HBO's Flight of the Conchords and FOX's Bob's Burgers) and Kurt Braunohler (Best Male Comedian Excellence in Comedy NY award) bring their award-winning variety show Hot Tub with Kurt and Kristen (named Time Out New York's Best Variety Show) to the UK.

After playing to sold-out crowds with their Edinburgh Comedy Award nominated Double Down Hearts, Kurt and Kristen return with the show that made the duo a staple of the New York indie comedy scene. They are winners of the Melbourne Comedy Festival's prestigious Barry Award and the duo's live credits also include the HBO Vegas Comedy Festival, the Chicago Improv Festival as well a one-off Channel 4 special Penelope: Princess of Pets produced by Spencer Millman (Harry Hill's TV Burp, Bo' Selecta! and The Mighty Boosh).

Joining them on stage will be their electric and mesmerising house band Adira Amram and The Experience helping the duo bring their style of Brooklyn Vaudeville back to Scotland.

Known for their spit-fire repartee and their fantastical sense of humour, Kurt and Kristen will host a variety show that will include stand-ups, sketch, music and more from the best of the Fringe festival. With different acts every night, Hot Tub with Kurt and Kristen is a crowd pleaser that will make the child in you very happy, but not real children, it will ruin real children, so don't bring them.

Kristen is the Senior Women's issues Correspondent for The Daily Show (More 4), a series regular in Flight of the Conchords (BBC Four), she has also appeared on Never Mind The Buzzcocks (BBC Two) and The Secret Policeman's Ball (Channel 4). She was also a writer for South Park, but chose to leave the show after she was fired. Her voice can be heard in DreamWorks' Shrek Forever After and Pixar's Toy Story 3 as well as on The Simpsons. She has also appeared alongside Russell Brand in Get Him to the Greek and Drew Barrymore and Justin Long in Going The Distance.

Kristen has previously been named Best Alternative Comic at the HBO Comedy Arts Festival and won a New York Nightlife Award for Best Female Stand-Up and was also the recipient of the second annual Andy Kaufman Award hosted by the New York Comedy Festival.

Kurt has performed at the Just for Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal and in Chicago, the HBO Vegas Comedy Festival, the Chicago Improv Festival, South by Southwest and Bonnaroo. As well as Best Male he also won Best Host in 2011 at the ECNY awards and Best Non-scripted Host at the New York Television Festival. The anti-game show he hosts, Pointless, is currently in development with Independent Film Channel.

Kurt says: "Hot Tub feels like it could go off the rails at any moment, and this sense of surprise and excitement is what fuels the magical night."

Kristen adds: "I might eat a spider, I don't give a shit. You never know what you're gonna get."
