Comedy Cook Off
You wouldn't think that comedy and food would mix - especially at the Edinburgh Fringe. In a festival which runs on a mixture of anxiety and energy drinks finding time to sit down for a meal, or even eat something on a plate, is a rare thing.
So when comedy website Such Small Portions first proposed to take six comedians down to a basement kitchen at one of Edinburgh's top restaurants it sounded like a recipe for disaster. Yet if anything, a comedy cook-off has revealed the secret desires of comedy cooks all over the place.
Gemma Goggin, Naz Osmanoglu, James Acaster, Jeff Leach, Horse & Louis and Rayguns Look Real Enough faced off in three heats earlier this month to see who would be able to cook up the best Souffle.
Films of each of the episodes are now online, with the public able to vote for whom they feel should be bought back to 12 Picardy Place to cook a main course in front of the panel of judges, including Show Me The Funny's Kate Copstick, to be crowned the Comedy Cook-Off Champion 2011.
Speaking about the event, James Acaster said: "It's the hardest thing I've ever done. I'm not doing the Fringe anymore, I'm going home!"
Fellow competitor Naz Osmanoglu, who perfected the 'hammer technique' for making a soufflé and was awarded 'best soufflé yet' by the judges, said: "It's good enough to be used on a poster. 'Sweet Air': it's better than five stars."
To vote, simply visit Such Small Portions and watch any of the three episodes, then vote for who think should be in the final...
