More details
Transvestite heavy metal loving comic Andrew O'Neill brings his new show Alternative to the Edinburgh Festival's Assembly Bosco Tent at their new site on George Square Gardens for the month of August. Packed with actual jokes, fun and nonsense, it proves that being 'alternative' might make Andrew different but it also makes him funny as hell.
Since his last full Edinburgh Fringe run in 2009 with his critically acclaimed show Occult Comedian, Andrew O'Neill has performed stand-up on the televised Melbourne International Comedy Festival Gala and Good News Week, appeared as a guest panelist on Spicks & Specks (Australia's version of Never Mind The Buzzcocks), and was one of only three comedians to film guest appearances for the new series of Stewart Lee's Comedy Vehicle. In February 2011 he staged a one-man takeover of the Radio 1 Rock Show. 2011 will be his 8th consecutive Edinburgh Fringe, as well as appearances in the last two years at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival (twice), the Adelaide Fringe (twice) and the New Zealand International Comedy Festival.
Andrew is a vegan, anarchist, occultist, transvestite, heavy metal-loving comedian. In this new show Alternative he explores why he has chosen to live in an alternative way, rejecting the normal routes in life. He tells tales of hitchhiking to gigs, of living rent-free and of practicing black magic. He talks about his political views and how they inform and reflect his take on the world, and informs how to choose the right skirt to wear to a heavy metal show.
Already a huge hit in the UK's comedy clubs as well as in the heavy metal and rock communities - this summer he'll MC the massive Sonisphere heavy metal festival, headline the Download Festival Comedy Stage and host the Metal Hammer Golden Gods Event in June (alongside Alice Cooper) - Andrew now brings his unique comedy style to the beautiful Assembly Bosco Tent for his biggest ever Fringe show.
