A chat with acclaimed character actress Sadie Hasler...
Tommy Holgate, The Sun, 11th August 2010Edinburgh Q&A: Sadie Hasler
"Lots of brilliant women from history inspired my show this year."

This summer, Sadie Hasler (Al Murray's Multiple Personality Disorder, ITV1) makes her Edinburgh solo-show debut with an hour of darkly comic characters. Fresh from performing at the Melbourne Comedy Festival and following an acclaimed national tour of Fakespeare: The Tragickal Saveings of King Nigel, Sadie presents Lady Bones, her bastardised biographies of ladies who lived, and some who did not.
Famous birds from history are given an anarchic comedy treatment, with virtually no consideration for fact or plausibility. Was Marie Curie's success in the lab down to some extremely fortuitous clumsiness? Probably not. Did Sylvia Plath have a bowling addiction? Definitely not. Did Katharine Hepburn splay herself for the taking on an ottoman at one of Orson Welles' famous sex parties? Don't be silly - she was frigid.
Prepare to witness other stuff that never happened - seen through the wonder of pretending folks didn't die: Marilyn Monroe passing out cocktails at President Obama's inauguration, Iris Murdoch reading out her new novel on pirate radio from the bath and Joan of Arc the bi-polar she-warrior singing of her doomed love affair with God in a tacky French bistro-club 'La Fin du Monde'.
This isn't a history lesson. There are no realistic impressions. Just a character comic doing voices and playing with people's good reputations, in a raucously silly - and often downright filthy - giant game of 'What If?'.
Returning to Edinburgh for her fourth consecutive year, Sadie has previously performed alongside Russell Kane in three sell-out Fringe shows, including the Edinburgh Comedy Award nominated Gaping Flaws and the critically acclaimed Fakespeare: The Tragickal Saveings of King Nigel. An established writer and screen actress, her credits include ITV1's Al Murray's Multiple Personality Disorder, Comedy Central's Shorts and Radio 2's Out to Lunch.
