Gemma Goggin review

Gemma Goggin: Get Laid or Die Trying. Gemma Goggin

It's fair to say that Gemma Goggin is a pretty liberated lady - a friendly and very likeable performer, she comes across as the sort of person you could happily be friends with, and the one who'll tell you all the filthy details, without being drunk.

Get Laid or Die Trying is a culmination of the triumphs and tragedies of her sexually adventurous 20's, but never really feels like there is a point - it rarely builds to anything, and when she does throw in one of her clever remarks, which are definite laugh-out-loud moments, the laughter is cut short by the start of a new story, or the over-explanation of the joke she previously told.

I can't help but feel that after a few drinks, and later at night, this show would do further to enhance the potential that Goggin has as a performer. She demonstrates an obvious ability for storytelling, punctured occasionally by a nervous laugh or self-reassurance, and would probably benefit more from an evening audience than the early afternoon punters, who evidently enjoyed the show but were also unafraid to sit in silence if they didn't like something.

The show isn't bad, and Goggin certainly has something, but it just doesn't hit the right spot this time, instead just relying a bit too heavily on the fact that you might want to hear about, and laugh at someone else's sex life, while you're still chewing your lunch.
