Fordy's Lock In review

Matt Forde

If you've had a couple of drinks and don't fancy hitting the hay quite yet, but can't be bothered to cram into another bar, head down to Fordy's Lock In at the Caves.

Imagine every drunken night you've had, when it doesn't want to end. Once the doors are locked, the 'philosophical' discussion may take place over a few more. Basically, it's the same thing, but the guys doing the discussing are some of the funniest acts on the Fringe. Chaired by the eponymous Matt Forde, an example question of his is"what's the scariest thing that's ever happened to you?". Fordy comes across as something of a buffoon, but a loveable one at that, and has the most ridiculously infectious laugh; even if the stories don't raise a smile, this will.

You aren't going to learn anything from the hour and a half, but you will have fun, watching the panel drink and discuss these pointless inanities, and witnessing the questions become ever more ridiculous. Fordy himself stands out, as he seems to have a ridiculous answer to almost everything - the stupidest things seem to happen to him on a regular basis, and he doesn't have a problem admitting this, thankfully.

Whilst hardly ground-breaking, its a cheerful enough concept, and offers the opportunity to see acts in a more relaxed environment, rather than the confines of their own script. It kind of feels like a night in with mates. Or a lock in, if you will. Thereby, achieving it's titular objective. Well done.
