From The Thick of It and BBC Radio 7's Newsjack, this Perrier nominee tells the sorry tale of how he attempted to become a cricket journalist by the ill-thought out and dishonest method of pretending to be one. After pulling a few strings and telling some little lies, an unprepared and unqualified Jupp heads to India with the English press to embark on a month-long, sun-soaked disaster (and some minor triumphs).

Edinburgh fringe grilling: Miles Jupp

Next up to hop on the wild ride of Sport.co.uk's Edinburgh Fringe grilling is comedian/actor Miles Jupp[ who, when not appearing on the BBC making grossly inappropriate comments in The Thick Of It or inventing things as Archie in Balamory, can often be found saying very funny things on a stage.

Award Winning comic Miles Jupp is back in Edinburgh with his most delightful tale to date.

A few years ago, disillusioned with comedy and acting, Perrier award nominated Miles decided he was going to pack it all in to follow his dream to become a cricket journalist. He attempted to achieve this by the unlikely, ill thought out and rather dishonest method of pretending to be one. After pulling a few strings and telling some whopping fibs, Miles couldn't believe his luck when he found himself heading to India with the English sporting press to embark on a month long cricket tour with his heroes.

Finding himself staying in the finest hotels in India and sharing a beer in the inner sanctum with cricketing legends Miles started to worry he might not be up to the job. Unprepared and unqualified, this hour is full of hilarious sorry tales of sun soaked sporting disaster (and some minor triumphs) as he eventually decided what was best for him.

Miles started performing stand up in Scotland in 2000 and the following year won both So You Think You're Funny and The Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year.

Most recently, Miles has starred in BBC Two sitcom Rev with Tom Hollander in which he played a rather keen lay preacher dealing with the Rev who has been moved from the rural surrounds of Suffolk to inner city Hackney. After the festival he will be filming series 2 of BBC Scotland's sitcom Tank Commander in which he will resume his role of Capt Sebastian Fanshawe. Miles was also seen as the hapless press officer, John Duggan in The Thick Of It and presents topical comedy show Newsjack for Radio 7.

As an actor he has also appeared in the feature films Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix, Death Defying Acts, and Is Anybody There? He was in all four series of the children's series Balamory and also featured in the television films of She Stoops To Conquer and Irvine Welsh and Dean Kavanagh's Wedding Belles.

On Radio Miles is a regular to the BBC Radio 4's The News Quiz and has contributed to a number of other Radio 4 shows such as Loose Ends, Quote Unquote, The Vote Now Show and Arthur Smith's Balham Bash, as well as his own series for the station Miles Jupp's Real World (co-performed with Frankie Boyle) which was broadcast in 2005. In 2008 and 2009 at the Edinburgh Festival he hosted a daily podcast for the Guardian newspaper, and in 2009 performed a full run of his last solo show Telling It Like It Might Be which ran at The Soho Theatre in London in December 2009.

Miles has just returned from a run at the New Zealand Comedy Festival and completed a tour of Australia.
