I don't like the idea of having a Doctor who's under 40, so this time go for someone much older. You could have a young male assistant carry out the running about etc, and have a more sedate actor in the lead role.

The series now is so much about the energy and fast pace that I don't think an actor who was too old could be seriously considered. This years Christmas special is called The Next Doctor and has David Morrissey in it; I think he would have been a good choice, and he's not too young.

I hope they carry on the tradition of casting someone who no-one had predicted.

Lenny Henry?

Tennant though was an obvious choice at the time. I remember watching Casanova, also written by Davies, and saying he'll be be the next Doctor.

Oi Bussell don't pinch my assinine gags!

Sorry, I've just been dipping into this thread and didn't see that the Rab C joke had been down twice already. Nice typo on "assinine" by the way.

The documentary shown before 'Rose' in March 2005 was narrated by Tennant, which made me think - hold on, what's he got to do with it!?

Yeah, I thought that at the time as well. But before you, obviously.

Michael Sheen?

You weren't even born when I dreamt up that shit; don't front with me.

Michael Sheen?

GREAT choice.

I'm sure I heard Tennant or RTD mention Sheen at some point, ruling him out or some such remark. Sheen is the no.1 choice, I would have said, but is he too famous already?

Who might be good:

Richard E Grant
Sean Bean
Gary Oldman
David Thewlis

Personally I thought Christopher Ecclestone was the best.

Worst:
Five Star. All of them. It would be a bit much.
The bloke who was Pete Beale in Eastenders. He barely knew his way around a cauli, let alone a tardis.

Too late. I'm fronting it. Whatever that actually means.

Apparently it's a straight choice between Andy Serkis or David Walliams*
