I don't have the statistics for what percentage of the UK have been to Uni, so can't comment on that.
The strange and wonderful Mighty Boosh Page 3
Quote: Matthew Stott @ October 27 2008, 3:03 PM BSTSo a fair percentage of the UK population then? It does bug me, that sort of point of view; nothing wrong with not liking it, but saying 'it's for students' always riles me.
He's perhaps not expressed it particularly well, but I think I know what he's trying to say, and do tend to agree. It's a particular style of humour which feels, to me, to be a bit more ... I dunno, centric, perhaps?, to that kind of demographic.
Something like that.

Pretty much anybody goes to university nowadays. It's not difficult. Although I agree that the Boosh does tend to appeal to a certain demographic, namely Goth girls who fancy Noel or the one with the moustache (although I suspect most fancy Noel).
Millllions of students like the Boosh and during series 2 maybe, even I was getting annoyed at how studenty the fanbase was getting. But before that all sorts of people liked it, just not very many of them. Those people still like it, it's just the studenty types are more visible. (a lot of them being the moronic type who aren't even into comedy, but just watch the Boosh because Vince has ace hair and looks like he's in a band.)
It's not The Boosh's fault that the NME forcibly adopted them as the 'cool' comedians though.

Yeah it is.
No, it's your fault.
I think looking back the third series is quite weak you know.
I haven't rewatched it as much as the other two. But I don't think of it as weak.
There are some brilliant scenes. And it looks amazing.

It is the weaker of the three series; it feels too contained; I prefer it when they can go anywhere. I still really enjoyed it, but it was certainly a couple of notches down on series one and two. Basically, they're never going to beat series one; I loved the zooniverse, the intros and outros in front of the curtain, Bob Fossil, Bainbridge; it's still their best TV series so far.
A bit like Red Dwarf. When the sets and effects get slicker and less ramshackle, the feel changes too much from what you fell in love with.
The bits that stick out for me in series three would be the Crack Fox, and the crimping episode.
Loved the crack fox!

I think they could still do another great 'something', but perhaps they need to risk taking a bit of time out. Obviously a risky thing to do when you're a bit of a flavour of the month, but I think if they actually rested the Boosh for a year or two and came back fresh then we would see something worthy of those early years again; beacuase it did bug me, all those naysayers who carped that series three wasn't as good as whats gone before; if only because I knew they were a bit right.

'Gonna hurt you real bad . . .' Funny yet completely creepy!
Feels like they've been gone for ages already though. Although I know they haven't.
They do seem (well Noel does) a bit too swept up in the showbiz side of things at the moment, showbiz pals et al, to concentrate on comedy! (That's probably totally unfair, I have no clue what he actually gets up to of course.)
I like my comedians to be big old socially retarded geeks, not partying constantly. Maybe they should come back when they're more middleaged.

You do realise Julian Barret is getting on a bit! And though the TV series was last year, they are now doing a stage show for months and months, then probably (or even at the same time) writing the next series/film/other thing that is neither of those things. Take a break! Recharge! Come back stronger and full of ideas!
