Have I Got News For You - Series 36 Page 6

It was ok. I thought that spider drawing was funny. Not as good as last week's show though.

Hate to say it. Wouldn't feel quite the same. But would be a hell of a lot funnier.

Fire: Merton.
Hire: Skinner.

Merton saying (about missing Deayton) 'No one has said that for 6 years.'

Er, I think you'll find we've ALL been saying it.

Quite.

Really lame this week. Really flat. Or was it just me?

It could be you too - but I was going to say the very same thing.

Past its sell by date I think now.

We had our expectations raised in last week's episode.

Yeah, I guess Merton has become stale. It's just the same old face pulling and 'surreal' nonsense.

Well I thought it was a great show, I thought Merton was really on his game tonight.

Oh well I'm used to being the minority view

You can all blame Merton if you like, but I thought it was flat because of the host, Al Murray. Swap for Jack Dee (as last week) and we would have had a much better show.

PS I have not been saying bring back Angus Deayton for 6 years. If anything, Germaine Greer's comment proves the point that he could never come back and host the show. Keep going with the guest hosts, I say - but better ones than Al Murray.

Murray wasn't on his best form I thought, no. But for me personally, Merton was a noticeably poorer contrast to Frank Skinner last week. Having him on as a different captain really highlighted how flat Paul Merton now is.

They missed a bit of the conversation out. It's quite a funny series of letters: http://www.geekologie.com/2008/11/good_idea_man_submits_drawing.php

The rest of the line-up for this series looks ace. David Mitchell hosts next week (first time he's hosted something I think?), then it's Jerry Springer, and Jeremy Clarkson is doing the Christmas special.

Yeah, Dee was good, and had a few nice ad-libs (the 'I haven't fed my family in 5 weeks' being one, and ending with the 'We started ringing comedians at about half one')

I do wish Skinner had a telly vehicle that did him justice (he actually filmed a non-broadcast pilot for a gameshow of all things . . .)

Wasn't "Fact Hunt", was it?

Well Fact Hunt did get a full ITV1 series (with the Guv rather than Cheeky Alan Supple), so it's not impossible.
