Interesting looking article (although I've not read it quite yet): http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/7676195.stm
How radio comedy changed a nation
The radio programme is available now at a BBCiPlayer near you !
If you have trouble finding it it's under 'A'
Archive Hour ! . .
I'll definitely listen to that tomorrow on iPlayer. Some of the best comedy is on the radio. I love things like The Masterson Inheritance, Just a Minute, I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue etc
Biiiiiiig bump !
I'm currently listening to a series of programmes I recorded way back called 'Radio Fun' which talks about radio comedy through the decades.
The 20s and 30s are hard work really but there was one Arthur Askey moment in there I quite liked.
He was struggling to say the least with some of the material but then he said to the band leader 'Will your band play anything you ask? 'Yes' said the band leader.
Whereupon Arthur said 'Ask them to play poker while I'm on then.'
Good series, but some are a bit of a slog, you're right. Need to revisit them for guides at some point soon.
Finished it now.
I have to admit the '80s were a bit of a struggle !
And if the extract from The Wordsmiths at Gorsemere was supposed to be a highlight, no wonder I've never heard of it before.
But, overall, well worth a listen.
