I too have received no such email.

Serves me right for submitting one about a satnav and two automated call centre pieces.

I tried for the first series and didn't get anywhere then either. This isn't my only lack of success this year though, I appear to have only managed to sell a single joke to 118 and now I've completely dried up on the joke front. Can't think of a single funny thing.

It's like I've had my sense of humour sucked out of me. And not in a good way. Think I'm finally in the right frame of mind to try a spec script for Clone.

I believe 118 118 is averaging out at 200 joke submissions a day, you have to write constantly to beat those odds.

Yeah, I know. I believe (though don't quote me on it) that after the submissions for the first series of Play & Record there were only something like eleven non-comms who got sketches on.

Or just well?

<Reminds Danny that he ruined the pick-ups when his phone alarm went off in the middle of the recording. /smugness>

Wanders down road hitchiking to some other writing genre whilst Incredible Hulk theme plays.

It's a bizarre email, though, because it asks you to think about what you've written and you might get on the show. I didn't fully understand it.

It's fairly amazing I got on Tilt! and the maybe pile for RFTP with that in mind, I have visions of being called 'The Phone Guy' next time I go in.

It does say that in the mailing list... ;)

I wonder how many people who submitted to this actually listen to radio comedy regularly, and how many people wouldn't have any interest in writing for radio if this competition hadn't come along?

Good point. I think judging by my "Recent Comedy Thread..." there's only a hardcore of real radio comedy fans. OPf course, it's hard to be too judgemental about the non-radio listening writers since I'll happy submit plays to playwriting competitions despite hardly ever going to the theatre.

Good point Griff.

At uni, we were told that Radio should be thh first point of call from the philosophy that it is easier to get produced.

I didn't get the email - I think my three sketches were both too long, and pretty unoriginal.

Also, I've worked in IT for my whole life without the slightest f**king interest in computers.

That'd be a great epitaph.

Apparently a lot of the submissions had directions like 'Act One, Scene 1', 'Lights up on:', and generally physical and visual things. Equally a lot had fairly hard core swearing in them. All of which suggests there were quite a few people who've never listened to the radio.

I had one where Manuel was forcibly bummed by Russell Brand, whilst Jonathon read from Mein Kampf.

You say that, but Armando Ianucci did a funny one on The Unbelievable Truth last night.
