No, I can imagine Abingdon wouldn't have satisfied the hopes and dreams of a young Dolly Dagger. It is utterly devoid of redeeming features.

Well, it used to have the Morland brewery. (Ponged a bit, mind.)

I would never live in Didcot. I would have sold myself on the streets of Reading to avoid Didcot.

Beautiful countryside north of Reading and into Oxfordshire, though. I've done a lot of walking and riding out in those parts.

And linking back to RFTP I did try to write a sketch about a railway official I met on the platform of Didcot station...

I went to university in Reading. I prefer Oxfordshire.

Gawd, even the memory of that smell makes me gag.

Did you go out in Reading?

Don't say that, Chip will want a pic for his avatar.

:)

Not a lot into the centre!

Wise move. Though Whiteknights and Cemetery Junction aren't much better. Did you ever drink in the Turk's Head - that was quite studenty?

Quote: Griff @ November 18 2008, 10:46 AM GMT

The Turks Head is dreadful.

Haven't been in there for many years. It was my local. Well, it was next door to my school.

"Keith Allen's f**king chutney" was also broadcast....

I'm not sure about that - I believe that the sketch in question made the preview copies but was never actually transmitted. Even bleeped out. Apparently, the BBC believe that a bleeping is effectively the same as the word itself.

And yes, I get to send my sketches direct to the script editor, so I actually get some feedback occasionally. I just thought it was odd that the Two Ronnies thing seems to keep coming up. Maybe I should stick with that and pitch a completely inoffensive Saturday evening BBC1 sketch show.

Which script editor? I've had nothing.

When you say riding, what exactly do you mean by that?

I can't remember the name of the pub near Whiteknights. The main pub I can remember drinking in was The Roebuck somewhere, some trips out to the country and the SU. I'm not sure if I ever went in the Turks Head but might have done in a a rag week. The most memorable one I occasionally went into was the chapter house for the south of England Hells Angels - something to do with Barrels I think, and not just the double variety. :)

Horses of courses!

Sounds like we moved in the same delightful social circles... :)

I've worked on the writing team for RFTP before so I send mine direct to a personal email rather than the rftp@bbc.co.uk address.

The Beeb seem pretty poor at feedback for stuff like this so don't take it personally. I tried a couple of times to get feedback from Play & Record and nothing, so I'm just waiting to see if it gets in when they broadcast.

Ah, ok. To be fair I never heard it broadcast but it was on an MP3 that was sent out. At least, I'm sure it was..... wasn't it??

As for feedback, I submitted a couple of sketches to a personal e-mail about three weeks ago. I've heard nowt since and don't expect to unless I'm a comedy genius, which I'm rapdly appreciating I'm probably not. As much as I'd love feedback, this is no longer a 'new talent' show, so I'm sure they'd rather stick their head in a blender than waste time teaching me the finer points of sketch-writing - I've had enough one-on-one time with actual comedy writers already!

Don't knock Cemetary Junction - I lived there till this time last year. Actually, it didn't have any good pubs, and I moved away on purpose, so knock away...

The fact that the highlight of the place is a cemetary says it all really. People are dying to get in there.
