Aw, er. *legs it*

Thats a good book and a seriously bad ass novel, I mean its proper old skool Stephen King horror.
Back when he was drinking and kinda evil and a bit of a red neck.

I prefer it to his vampyre and demon stories.

I think he's always happier and more entertaining writing, gothic, red neck horror.

But I dunno Salems lot is pretty hard core.

I think Cujo and the Dark Half compete for most hard core horror novel.

I haven't read Cujo since I was about 12, but it was a good'n. The only Stephen King books I don't like are the fantasy ones he does. (But I've never actually tried one to be fair, I just avoid fantasy books in general.)

I liked the first half or so of Needful Things...but when the monsters appear it get's too fantasy for me. I like it more "realistic" and as you say redneck-ish.

Yeah, I prefer his more realistic stories. They're scarier.

Yeh Needful things is the first of his books where I think he was just too big and successful to be edited.

But I just loved the riot with the two churches.

nb Zooo the fantasy ones aren't great, but The Talisman manages to kind of avoid it.

It's the early ones that make me laugh whislt going jeezthat's nasty.

Exactly...giant spiders (big as a house) in novels don't scare me.

Imagine being Stephen King, where everyone has read at least one of your books. He's kind of a gateway author from children's books to adult ones.

The little ones that bite your bum when you're on the crapper is much scarier.

I thought the Dark Tower novels were pretty decent, possibly because they weren't set in a typical fantasy environment. Generally King was at his scariest in those early years, but then so are most people. Horror's a young man's game.

The dark tower stuff especially the early were for me better than lotr in terms of fantasy epics

Wouldn't be difficult...
