I believe Jap' cars are reliable but spares expensive, Brit cars unreliable but cheaper spares- so, old Toyota/Hyundi and ;scrap yard spares.
We had Toyota for 10 yrs-Ford Mondeo 12 yrs- recently bought 7yr old Citroen Piccasa diesel, all VERY reliable.
