Yeah I don't like this French business.

And you are doing it again rwayne. Do you have an opinion on 50 Shades or not? Do you think it's popularity is detrimental to women and feminism? Is it just harmless fun or a serious cry that women want to return to a more subserveant role based on the pressures of modern life?
Or are you just picking apart every word on my posts in order to prove some 'point'?

Outrageous. Only fashion designers, womens magazine editors and female Daily Mail columnists are allowed to do that.
Now, how can I get that Kate Middleton look again?
Not sure it is necessarily sexist. Lots of blokes get their rocks off from acting as 'maids' to dominatrices.
Quote: Nat Wicks @ June 24 2012, 2:28 PM BSTIt's extremely poorly written porn, based on reducing the main character to nothing but a sexually submissive object. The Mr Grey character is horrendously sexist, including making the lead char sign a contract to dictate what she will wear, how often she excercises, how she conducts herself. And stalks her a bit. But that's okay right, because he's a handsome billionaire with a big penis who can speak French. The idea that this is a legit fantasy for a lot if women makes me want to throw things.
Thanks... nice to know someone who 'hates' it has actually read it.
Though isn't the 'contract' signed voluntarily? That would seem to be the point... and it IS a fantasy for many women. Human sexuality is a broad church.

For some reason I was thinking it was about ghosts or something. Must have seen it mentioned as the new Twilight somewhere and assumed everyone was bored of vampires by now.
Still I don't think I'll be reading it. I'm sure there will be a film so maybe on cheap arse Tuesday, if I get really bored.
Quote: AJGO @ June 24 2012, 2:27 PM BSTOutrageous, you have never seen me looking chavvy!
True. But once you go blonde, you won't have to worry your pretty little head about such things. You'll be too busy buying pink stuff and watching TOWIE.

Just because one group does a bad thing, doesn't mean that others should be encouraged to do the same thing. I'm sick of this horrible race to the bottom culture we have. Nothing has the value it should, especially people. I just wish people could have more respect for themselves.
I don't think it is all the fault of the French.

It's interesting you use the phrase "prove some 'point'"... I just find it interesting you have such strong 'opinions' on subjects, on which, you appear to have no knowledge.
Well I don't want to read 'Fifty Shades' sounds boring and depressing- do not need at moment.
Trying to order playsuit from Debs, got to go out to visit Pata soon, feeling tired though....
Heels are fab- but ALWAYS lead to trouble in my opinion-REALLY! girls please stick to flats!
Have you not seen 'Cops Uncut' - full of piss heads wearing stiletos!
...
And that's just the men.

The difference is that male fantasies are generally sexual, whereas womens' are relationship based. If it was a load of one off encounters, it wouldn't have anywhere near the same implication. Being submissive in bed is very different from being submissive in life. The fact the so many people think that this character represents the perfect man is hugely offensive to both genders. It's very sad to think that so many wish we were just back in the 50s. Kind of makes ne wonder whether there is any point in feminism, considering it feels like so few of us actually want equality.
I think the people reading it are just enjoying a bit of socially acceptable (since it's so famous at the moment) rude jiggery pokery. I don't think it's anything to get too worried about. It'll all blow over!
Especially once they all realise that stuff is available free all over the internet. The chumps.
What the hell is a playsuit anyway lol. ?

Good luck with that. Is it more or less outrageous for women to get turned on by a dominant man with a big woo-woo then say a vampire, a time traveller or an emotionless detective?
What is the acceptable face of sexual fantasy? It's obviously popular with the ladies, why are you so against them having a dabble in erotic fiction? Some women have rape fantasies, which I find much more disturbing then a bit of slap and tickle (and possible golden showers - dunno, haven't read it, do they wee on each other?).
