You've never been shooting have you? Aside from the usual superficial rush of the noise and the recoil, the satisfaction you get from hitting the target and the way that you can forget all your troubles and stresses because you are so concentrated on what you are doing, there is also the social aspect.
It's fun because it's a sport, much in the same way as archery, javelin, discus, hammer and shot put.

I don't just go shooting, I have many hobbies including comedy writing - now that is a futile sport with very little fun.
