Oooh, they do both look good.
Obviously I don't know how you feel about them, but I'd be tempted to go with the maladies.
I've never really got on that well with George Eliot, but the fact that it's not concentrating just on her work alone does make it look interesting.
Difficult!

By the way, 'Silly Novels by Lady Novelists' sounds awesome!

I've chosen all but one, and it's between these two - http://www.kcl.ac.uk/schools/humanities/depts/english/modules/level6/aaec059.html

No challenge a varied collection of lively works centred on one of the most dynamic moments in history. Plus you get to study HG Wells the first and posibly the best scifi writer.

Is there anything more interesting then the fusion of history, philosophy and literature?

The other one is a load of boring Victorian wank.

But Victorian stuff is goooooooooood!

Like Steam powered robot spiders?

NO.

Although, at least you'd hear them coming.

I was worried about just studying Eliot too, but I do love Middlemarch. And 'Silly Novels by Lady Novelists' is very funny - written by Eliot herself!

And The Island of Doctor Moreau is crap imho, Sooty. Absolute crap.

I found most Victorian novels were not only long but were redolent of an unpleasant, rather stale mindset.

Georgian, Elizabethan ace, Victorian huge step backwards.

Just my opinion and all.

This is why you never get invited to any Victorian hijinx! so close minded ;)

I sense you are leanink towards Eliot!

(That was my Freudian accent).

How dare you!

Right I'm off to the angry dome.

(ok it wasn't that good, but it was short and you could just watch the totally batshit film version where a massive Marlon Brando got his cock out this may be why I never finished Uni)

I know I like Victorians, the issue is if I like George Eliot enough to do a whole module on her.

Are you scared of invisible wanking invaders from Mars?

I just read the Wikipedia stuff for some of the texts, and none of them look amazing, but Middlemarch didn't either. SIGH. I was so set on Post-Colonial, but nooow...
