No, if I remember rightly, there are - or were - hundreds of different tribes, if not thousands. How many might have been wiped out by settlers, I don't know. I'm sure that Dr Mato can enlighten us though.
I think there are primary tribes - but there are sub tribes that branch of them so I think if you count them all it's thousands, I could be wrong though...

If I'm not mistaken (and I could be mistaken) Lakota are part of a larger group of natives who all speak the same Sioux language. That's what I remember from high school anyways.
As for the amount of different tribes there are a lot! Sioux is one of the larger ones. I remember there being a lot just in the Sioux group alone. They had some of the coolest warriors though like Sitting Bull.
Here is a list of what Canada recognizes as Aboriginal. Please ignore the very ignorant name of the department.
The furthest thing they recognize are the Métis. The ones who are half Native, half white.

I see nothing wrong woth ancient pictogram. However shoes in trees make me SAD!
Graffiti is not a pretty site either.
Status = happy. My Lakota curse was lifted today and as a result my penis has reappeared. Unfortunatly it was on somebody else. Still I 'aint seen Sam the Pig Skinner so happy for ages and in fairness I wasn't getting much use out of it.
