Ellie's friend's best friend collapsed and died on Monday. She was 27 and had 2 children, and it was extremely sudden. They don't know why. It's made her really appreciate how amazing her friends are to her. :(

Ouch, that is soo sad when someone is cut off in their prime...

Well at least the copyright on Beowulf has expired, has it not.

Hmmm 70 years after death of author unless author is immortal..

Limited Liability Companies are essentially immortal and can hold copyright by this fudge for many more than 70 years.

Hmm, time to create "Long-Known Legends Limited" and fake its inauguration papers to be many hundreds (thousands) of years ago and then produce 'proof' that we wrote Beowulf and therefor it is still in copyright..

Then send warning letter to Robyn for copyright infringement and cut off her broad band,,

I'm reading it in a book, so...

Besides, I'm reading it in translation by Seamus Heaney, so he could technically be deemed the author - defo not dead yet. Doubly good that I'm reading it in a book!

*gives Ellie dead arm and lobs her gym bag on the roof*

I'm going for a coffee...anyone coming? If so, mop it up afterwards - it stains terribly...apparently.

No, As far as I recall translators do not get full copyright of their version as it is deemed a modification of the original.

Ah, but how came you by that book... Have you paid your library fees from which a miniscule amount goes to the copyright owner?

:D :D

The Heaney translation is the best-known and widely available in both bookshop and library, so I doubt Robyn would have had to resort to illicit means to acquire it. Pleased

As a modification, that's more likely to be a breach of copyright! :D

I bought it. Besides, all of the Beowulf poets are dead. It wasn't written down until well after it was first told, but I'm sure that even the scribes couldn't live thousands of years.

They can track me by satellite... which they probably already do after inserting that probe in my arse.

You fell for the old I-just-need-to-insert-this-probe-in-your-ass-by-order-of-the-government line? :)
