In my experience, UK supermarket cashiers and train station employees are topped only by France's when it comes to their disdain for their customers.

I stopped by the local supermarket yesterday afternoon and was greeted at the entrance, at the register and at the exit. Real smiles, friendly conversation, genuinely helpful -- it's not that difficult to be nice to people while you're working.

I like my local station.

I'd pay people to not be like that.

Laughing out loud

A fatally on the line is always welcome at a station on a regional branch line, of course, because it gives them the opportunity to cancel all the trains for three days and go down the pub instead.

This is on the FGW main line!

"Can passengers move further down the train where there is additional seating. Please note there is a rail-replacement bus service operating today between Krakow Plazow and Auschwitz."

:O

I have no local station. However if I drive to Rochester I can get on a train there, along with getting mugged, peed on, and possibly propositioned by a hooker that might be a man.

Do people still use steamer trunks??

That depends. What are "steamer trunks"? Errr

On the cart, do you see the largest trunk, bottom right? That's a steamer trunk.

Ah... Only in Marc P's world, I think. ;)

Like Kate Winslet had on the Titanic!
