I'd say go out with the guy. Who knows what might happen and at the very least it might be an ego boost and a change of scenery.

Oh, yeah. Didn't think of that. Maybe he didn't either. We were really good friends in high school and almost dated back then. He knows my situation...well, now I will definitely have to call.

Not trying to rain on your parade or anything. I just know how small towns and police departments work. It seems like most of the problems we have with cops here relate to affairs and questionable dating practices/choices.
